Outboards-Segment Five
Antique Outboard Motors-Great History
Passion is not strong enough of a word to describe the antique outboard motor collector/restorer. The motors featured in this segment include a 1953 outboard Johnson that has never run, never had gas in it, and was in the original box when the collector bought it. The collector vowed he will never run it in order to preserve it “forever” as original. Other motors featured: 1969 Commando, Neptune “Mighty Mite” from the 1940’s, and still in the box. Another collector, the owner of nearly 300 antique motors, many from the 1910 and 1920’s, claims the old technology was advanced and should still be used today. Many rare Evinrude engines, including ½ horse power, various models, and old Johnson motors are featured, some started for the first time in 35 years, after a brief cleaning. Elto’s. Martin’s, Koban, Mercury, Flambeau, first outboard powered by electric, “underwater”, Elto and many other motors are featured in this segment, including unique antique motors that run forward or backward.
